CARIBOU — PG&E will reinforce a hillside along Caribou Road about a mile below the Belden Dam between Oct. 19-30, with no through traffic allowed during work hours.
PG&E crews will install rip rap – also known as rock rubble – to protect against landslides and washouts along a 60-foot stretch of the road.
The work site is about seven miles north of Highway 70 in western Plumas County. The public will also still have access to Belden Forebay, but only by traveling the Prattville-Butt Reservoir Road and/or Seneca Road from the Highway 89 corridor near Lake Almanor.
Crews will work seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. Only emergency vehicles will be permitted passage. At the end of each work day, the road will reopen to traffic until 8 a.m. the next day.
Recreationists will be able to access the North Fork Feather River campgrounds along Caribou Road from Highway 70. Signage advising motorists of the closure will be placed at the intersections of Caribou Road and Highway 70, Highway 89 and Butt Lake Road, Highway 89 and Seneca Road, as well as at Belden Dam.
The complete road closure at the work site is necessary as the road is narrow and PG&E needs to use heavy equipment at the site.
